FACTORS ON IMPROVING THE EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF TAPIOCA STARCH PRODUCTION
In order to get more profit, a company normally reduces the production cost as low as possible. But on the other hand, they also need to consider whether the savings made do not adversely influence the results of the efficiency and effectiveness of production. The above matter is raised because normally the purchasing department does more concern than the production department.
For example, the purchasing department tends to get a cheaper sawblade in order to lower the production cost. And when it is compared to another brand, e.g. Anchor Heart, which is 20-40% more expensive, they will just buy a cheaper sawblade.
In making the decision of purchasing a sawblade, do not only buy in terms of cheaper price, but also it should be looked carefully on factors below, because it will affect the result.
Factors that need to be considered in buying tapioca sawblade:
A. The Height and The Shape of The Teeth
The height and the shape of the teeth should be in accordance with the DIN-standard. If it is not, it will cause a lesser result of the tapioca flour and shorter life time of the sawblade. If the production capacity is lost by 1% per day (that will not happen if it is extracted by using a DIN-standard sawblade), we can calculate on the losses to be borne. This loss will not be seen if we do not observe carefully because this happens unnoticed.
The equation can be formulated to:
A * B * C * D = Y
A * B1 * C * D = Y1
Wherein:
A = Tapioca Root
B = % Starch content by using DIN-standard sawblade
B1 = % Starch content by using non-DIN-standard sawblade
C = Production days in a month
D = Tapioca Starch Price per kg
Y = Tapioca Starch results in a month using DIN-standard sawblade
Y1 = Tapioca Starch results in a month using non DIN-standard sawblade
If Y is greater than Y1, a company will be benefit.
But normally, Y is smaller than Y1, therefore a company will incur an invisible and unnoticed loss.
Compared with buying a DIN-standard sawblade (20-40% more expensive), the formula is:
P * Q = Z
Wherein:
P = Price difference between DIN-standard sawblade and non-DIN-standard sawblade
Q = Quantity of Sawblade used in production days of a month
Z = Total price difference
If the difference between Y and Y1 is compared to Z, the result of the Y-Y1 value remains greater than the value of Z. And this value will be even greater if the production capacity is also getting bigger.
In general, the purchasing department will only see in terms of cost saving and a factory’s report of being able to use the sawblade, without examining more on the result, whether it is effective and efficient enough.
B. The Consistency of The Sawblade (Teeth and Body)
If the hardness of the body and the teeth is not consistent enough, it will have some causes, i.e.:
- If it is too mild/flexible, the teeth will bend during the grating process. Thus, result is not optimal.
- If it is too hard, the teeth will be broken during the grating process.
Also, there will be a waste of sawblade (the significant factor), production time and the labor.
A waste of the sawblade happens because of the abovementioned, therefore the cost will eventually be greater, though they have cut the expenditure by using cheaper sawblade but the quantity of the sawblade used is actually greater.
The replacement of the teeth will also take some time. If this happens too often, there will be a waste in time especially in the labor’s waiting time, which actually can be used optimally. It can be prevented by using a good sawblade, i.e. DIN-standard sawblade.
Below are the information of DIN-standard sawblade:
- Brand : ANCHOR HEART ex-German.
- Colour : yellow-brown.
- This colour indicates the improvement of raw material’s composition and the technology used of combustion.
- Each roll is wrapped with kraft paper which contains oil (not paper or plastic or other wrapping rubbed with oil). This is to prevent rust due to long time storage in the warehouse.
- At the end of each roll/piece, there is KONEX – ANCHOR – GERMANY stamp.
- The sole agent in Indonesia for this sawblade is

All the information are given so that your company is not misrepresented by other suppliers that sell similar sawblades.
Recently, there are a lot of our customers claiming the same sawblade, but actually it is not our brand. Previously they used our brand and they do not know the difference because they do not observe carefully. Therefore, we need to provide all the information.
The above explanation is also given so that you may be more careful and consider to buy a good sawblade to improve the efficiency and the effectiveness of the production.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
